A rental polymer skid can speed up a plant trial, but it also introduces a second preparation and dosing system into the comparison. If the rental unit has different wetting, maturation or control performance, an apparent product improvement may partly be an equipment effect. Accept the skid as a functioning process system before ranking the chemical delivered through it.

Match utilities and operating range

Confirm water quality, available flow and pressure, power, drainage and the expected chemical form. Compare the trial's minimum and maximum demand with the skid's documented operating envelope. A unit sized for peak consumption may behave poorly at intermittent low demand if that duty was not part of its design.

Identify the safe unloading, containment and access arrangements before delivery. Review compatibility of hoses and connections and assign responsibility for the temporary installation. The trial should not depend on unlabelled shared hoses, improvised drains or an operator remembering to close an unsecured chemical route.

Prove useful preparation capacity

Inspect the product preparation sequence using the manufacturer's instructions. Verify usable batch volume, maturation arrangements where required and the prevention of short-circuiting between newly prepared and ready solution. Verify delivery independently of the display

Use an approved safe calibration method to check delivered output across the relevant range. Record the solution basis so the comparison can be expressed as commercial product or active polymer consistently. A controller display may report a requested rate rather than a measured one; identify which value is being logged.

Have authorised personnel test required permissives, loss-of-flow behaviour and the normal restart sequence. Do not defeat plant protection to keep the temporary skid running. Document who responds to faults outside normal working hours and where off-spec solution or flushing liquid will go.

Separate commissioning from product evaluation

Exclude clearly identified commissioning periods from the chemical-performance comparison, while retaining their records. Once the unit is accepted, establish a stable reference and begin the agreed trial. If the reference product is prepared on the old skid and the candidate on the rental skid, acknowledge the equipment difference or arrange a fairer crossover where practical.

At removal, reconcile remaining stock, clean and isolate connections under the approved procedure, and restore the permanent system's documented state. The trial report should identify the equipment used and its acceptance evidence so a purchasing decision is not based on a temporary setup that cannot be reproduced after the rental unit leaves.
